FATE: THE WINX SAGA - Drama Review

The long-running Italian cartoon about a group of best-friend fairies, Winx Club, is one of the few explicitly girl-focused shows to make the transition to a darker, edgier live-action. Fate: The Winx Saga by Netflix casts the same spell on the bright, visually vibrant cartoon that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale did on their family-friendly Archie Comics counterparts. It has a surprisingly nuanced plot that delves into the consequences of war across generations — but it comes at a cost, both for the characters and for that familiar sense of friendship and mutual support. In the first episode, we see Bloom (Abigail Cowen) moving into Alfea, a boarding school for fairies and specialists (male fairies) in the Otherworld. The first person she speaks with is a specialist named Sky (Danny Griffin), who discovers that Bloom is from the "realm" of California and that she had no idea she was a fairy three months ago. She meets her roommates, including Stella (Hannah

STRONG GIRL DO BONG-SOON - Drama Review

STRONG GIRL DO BONG-SOON Cover

Strong girl Do Bong-Soon is one of the best South Korean dramas directed by Lee Hyung Min and written by Baek Mi Kyung. Romance, Fantasy, Drama, Comedy, Action, and Mystery are some of the genres represented in this drama series. The IMDb rating for Strong girl Do Bong-Soon  is 8.2/10. The most anticipated series of 2017. If you are looking for something that is a class by itself watch Strong Girl Do Bong Soon and dwell in a world of wonders.

Story Line:

As the name suggests Strong Girl Do Bong-Soon, the drama revolves around Do Bong Soon a peanut-sized, cute, and seemingly harmless girl with innate superhuman strength passed down from generation to generation in the females in her family and she might lose it if she exploits the power besotted on her for personal gains or wrongdoings.  The only problem is that she doesn’t want these powers for two major reasons; firstly, her mother favors her twin brother because they think she can protect herself, and secondly, she wants to be a petite and fragile woman. After all, she has a heart that beats only for her childhood friend and police officer In Guk Doo who loves such type woman and already has a girlfriend. Her biggest wish in life is to develop a video game with herself as the main character.

Ahn Min Hyuk is the CEO of a top leading gaming company A in soft, the best in its field. He comes from a rich family but is at odds with them. His stepbrothers envy him and his grandfather wants him to take over the family business. He receives anonymous life threats and does not trust the police. One day he witnesses Bong-Soon beating up some thugs and is mesmerised by her impressive strength and fighting skills. He pesters her to be his bodyguard and in return also offers an internship at the planning department for new games in his company along with helping her in controlling her strength.

Meanwhile, there is a mysterious psychopath in Do Bong Dong, the neighbourhood in which Bong Soon lives, who kidnaps young girls. A string of explainable yet similar kidnappings catches the eyes of Bong Soon along with the police, especially Guk Doo, and thus starts a tale of mysteries, love, romance, and humour.

Cast and Acting:

STRONG GIRL DO BONG-SOON Cast

Park Bo-young
(Do Bong-soon) was the perfect choice for being the female lead, she gave those young, innocent, and naïve looks and became a total bad ass when needed. She had delivered her emotions greatly. Park Hyung-Sik (Ahn Min-hyuk) was a total playboy and spoilt type of person at the beginning but how his role changed was quite admirable. No, it was not cringe and he was incredible. Ji Soo (In Guk-doo) was a perfect addition to the cast and played well the role of an honest and dedicated detective. Jang Mi-Kwan (Kim Jang-Hyun, the psychopath kidnapper) was not a male role but rather a side role. He became a prominent addition to the cast at the end of the show. I think his acting was perfect because one I never met a psychopath and two he didn’t have many scenes.

Final Thoughts:

The Strong Girl Do Bong-Soon drama is a must-watch with its amazing acting, perfect chemistry, star-studded cast, and incredible cinematography. Though the drama has its fair amount of cringe scenes and some humourless humour the flaws can be overlooked. The main flaws of the drama are its unnecessary characters, unnecessary humour, and the female lead’s mother. The positive aspects are its mind-blowing story line, bad ass, the rude and slightly selfish female lead, the hot-headed male lead, amazing chemistry between the characters, no unnecessarily dragged scenes, and no rich-poor or dominating men stereotypes. The drama will hook you up till the end.

  2. I agree. The drama definitely has its cringe moments, but I appreciate the implicit symbolism it had with the super-strength. And ofcourse I appreciated the lighthearted humour with the darker undertones.
