Bored of watching the cheesy rom-com, here’s the perfect drama for you to snatch your night’s sleep. It is worth your precious time and will illuminate your dark world full of boredom.
Vincenzo is a must-see South Korean drama
directed by Kim Hee-Won and written by Park Jae-Bum. Mafia, crime, and low are
some of the genres represented in the 20-episode series. The IMDb rating for
Vincenzo (Korean Drama) is 8.5/10. However, I give it a ten out of ten.
Story line:
Evil can only be destroyed with evil. Vincenzo narrates
the story of a man who was adopted by the Don of the Italian Mafia at the
tender age of eight. Named Vincenzo Cassano, he embarks on his life’s journey
under his wings and becomes the Mafia’s Consigliere, Don’s right-hand man as
well as a lawyer. With Don’s death and mafia wars, Vincenzo flees to South
Korea and there he starts to hunt for a stash of gold hidden under the Geumga
Plaza. For this, he has to use his skills against the notorious Babel Group which
is in a feud with the ownership of the plaza. He meets with our sassy female
lead Hong Cha-young during his journey, who replaces her father as CEO of
Jipuragi Law Firm where he works as a legal advisor. Cha-young is an energetic,
straightforward lawyer who can go to any extent to win her cases. She later
joins Vincenzo in his vendetta against Bthe abel group.
Cast and Acting:
The heart of the show is our Greek God Song Joong-ki (Vincenzo Cassano). The performance of Song Joong-ki was superb. His engaging demeanor was one of my favorites Even if you are bored of the thriller, his drool-worthy looks and immaculate delivery of dialogues would hook you till the end. Then there is Jeon Yeo-been who was the show stealer with her perfectly balanced personality. Her sassiness and over-reactive nature lighted even the most intense scenes. Personally, none other than Yeo-been could do justice to Cha-young’s character. Ok, Taek-Yeon (Jang Jun-woo) was another fabulous addition to the cast. At first, though he seemed like a naïve intern later turns out to be the main antagonist. This transformation is what will stupefy you to no extent. I never liked Kim Yeo-jin’s (Choi Myung-hee) character but she also played her role extraordinarily.
The most shocking character in the whole show was
Kwak Dong-Yeon. Yeong Han-Seo, owner of Babel group and Jun-Woo’s stepbrother)
who appeared to have more morals than his half-brother. I hoped for Salvatore Alfano
(Paolo Cassano, Don’s biological son who becomes the leader of the Italian
Mafia after his death and the one who tries to kill Vincenzo out of jealousy
causing him to flee) to develop into some sort of the main antagonist but he
failed miserably in doing his job.
Final Thoughts:
So here are my two cents on this drama: The show
starts with a remarkable pace especially the opening scene of its first episode
is what will imprison your hearts with the chains of desire to watch the show
till the end. It begins as a complete mafia thriller drama but later progresses
into a law drama with a sprinkle of humor. It has outstanding cinematography
and the shots, exclusively stand-outs and combat scenes, were beautifully
captured by the camera. I feel Hong Cha Young's
persona was well-represented in the audience, and the relationship between
Vincenzo and Hong Cha Young is lovely and nice.
The only drawback in my opinion is unnecessary characters and sometimes the unneeded comedy. But the plot was flawless and even the sub-plots progressed impressively. Overall, the bad aspects are masked by its magnificent cast, ultimate cinematography, and immaculate story. The drama is irrefutably worth your time.
